On Sunday 8th of May a bunch of 6 motivated Polo beginners met to play their first "School chukker". Under the summer like sun, they met alongside field 1 and 2 to discuss the rules of the game before starting to play. After a season of stick and balling or after a couple of months of classes and hard work on the wodden horse, it was for many, their first game ever.
School chukkers are played once or twice a week (either on Fridays, Tuesdays or Sundays) and involves up to 8 players, out of which 6 can be beginners and 2 will be a little more experienced to give the game some speed and help Simon Luginbühl, the Polo Club Manager and Teacher. Simon will follow all actions with his eagle eye and is sure to whislte at all fouls and to explain them clearly. After the chukker we take the time to go over the rules and answer various questions with a white board and drawings, helping students understand the most important rule: that of the "right of way" - following the line of the ball.
